Cruise from Juneau to Ford's Terror Fjord and Dawes Glacier
8:00 am Departure from Goldbelt's Seadrome dock.
Cruise to Ford's Terror and Endicott Arm's Dawes glacier, return to Juneau at approximately 5:30pm.
Ford's Terror is located 60 miles southeast of Juneau. It is named after a US Navy crewman who, in 1889, rowed a small boat into the narrow entrance of the granite fjord at low tide. When the tide rose, water was forced through the bottleneck entrance to the fjord, trapping Ford in its violent waves and massive colliding icebergs for six "terrifying" hours!
While it probably won't evoke fear, a visit to Ford's Terror today will certainly prove to be a humbling and dramatic adventure. Experiencing the contrast between the fjord's sharp granite cliffs and Endicott Arm's gentle shoreline will only enhance the feeling of awe. Allow Goldbelt Tours to guide you to a sanctuary of solitude within the walls of history!
